Welcome to Garden of Thoughts. I’m your average internet junkie. You’ll can find me on Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Vimeo, Delicious, 43 Things, & YouTube, just to name a few. I like my coffee sweet, my politics liberal, my music loud and my blog, well, I just like playing on my blog.
Personality-wise: I’m sarcastic, and often way too serious for my own good. I can also be goofy, fun, and overly-excited when I’ve ingested the right amount of liquid encouragement. I’m a girly girl to the core. I love wearing cute dresses! I love the color pink. I like getting my nails done any chance I get.. I’m sorta high maintenance, I want anything & everything. But, I’m also grounded & take into account what’s important in life & not lose sight of it. I’m a sweetheart & I try to be honest with people, sometimes it may come off rude, but I mean well & I try to be tactful.
In 2008, I obtained my Masters Degree from Kent State University. Both Kent and the college are really great places. If you have ever thought about moving there, It’s a pretty nice place to be! When I’m not busy, (about 99% of the time) I am either hanging out with Hotboy™, working on my blog, playing pinochle, sunbathing at the beach or working on my blog, or probably working on my blog. I live for music (indie, alternative, rock and everything in between), blogging, photography, webdesign, digital scrapbooking and shopping (aka: spending all my [husband's] money).
About the Site
Please note right off the bat that I’m terrible at keeping the bloggin’ mojo alive. Sporadic posts are pretty common!
I’ve had a personal site for over 7 years now. Over those years I’ve had many domain names and plenty of self-designed layouts. Garden of Thoughts is the latest manifestation of a love-hate relationship with webdesign. I love to create new designs, but I tend to get a bit obsessive with manic coding ’til odd hours in the morning and valid html/cross-browser functionality. This very often finds me cursing at the computer monitor
F.A.Q.
How’d you end up as an “Internet Junkie”?
In 2002 I started a blog over at Angelfire. It didn’t last long, but it inspired me to learn HTML & CSS. I quickly started managing a few different web sites and before long, I was knee deep in design and addicted to blogging. One of the great things about blogging is getting turned on to new and interesting sites. I joined a few social networks, and began trying all the new desktop apps. In 2005, I made the switch to self hosted Wordpress, which was pretty much the best decision ever. I started learning PHP and began working on a few wordpress plugins. Now all things tech interest me. I’ve designed numerous blogger and Wordpress themes, and started coding plugins to integrate my various accounts across the web with my blog.
If you could live anywhere on the planet, where would you choose?
Cuernavaca, Morelos Mexico. Its gorgeous. The city of eternal spring.
Favorite possession?
My iPhone. No joke. It’s my connection to the outside world, my gps, my music, an internet jukie’s heaven! It’s a cheesy answer but it’s the first thing I pick up in the morning and the last thing I put down at night. And I go nowhere without it.
What do you look for in a blog that keeps you reading?
Personality. I can’t stand boring blogs. And If your site makes my eyes bleed, crashes my browser or takes 10 minutes to load because you’ve got 5635463e352304 blinkies and videos and other assorted crap, I won’t go. Or at best, I won’t stay. Be kind to the colors, they never did anything to you!
How did you and the hubby meet?
My husband and I met during senior year of college. Late one night we were both out dancing with friends, but surprisingly sober, and he danced with me and asked for my number. The rest, as they say, is history. That was almost 4 years ago.
If you could do anything, and get paid doing it, what would it be?
There are three answers to that one.
Answer One: Eat Cheesecake.
Answer Two: Musician. I’d like nothing better than to be able to share my music and passion about music with others.
Answer Three: Web designer.
What is your most shameful indulgence?
The Bachelor & Bachelorette.
What is the absolute craziest, wildest, thing you’ve ever done?
I’ve…climbed the pyramids at Teotihuacan, snorkeled in the Caribbean Sea, ended up in the emergency room after a bizarre beach incident, entered a live web cam dance contest, challenged Chaos to a shot contest – and WON!, tried out for a cheerleading team, but I don’t consider any of those crazy or wild. Just normal, run-of-the-mill life experiences. I know, I’m boring.
Spill some secret for us. Something you’ve never told (almost) anyone!
Um…I’m not sure what you’re looking for here. Lemme think about how I want to answer this one
What language(s) would you love to learn?
I speak Spanish and would love to continue learning more. And also Italian. Since I’d like to tour Europe, I’ll need to know some Italian!
Where are the places you most want to visit?
I would love to travel more throughout Mexico. Spain, Italy and The Czech Republic.
What things are there that you specifically feel like you need to do or see before you die? See 43 Things. It’s a work in progress.
Uhh, if you were a lollipop, which flava would ya be?
Grape. I don’t know why. Just my favorite flavors I guess. What the answer supposed to be deep or something?
Whats the winning lottery numbers this week?
I’m keeping that for myself, thank you very much. Its not that I don’t like you all…
What is your favorite alcoholic beverage?
I’d have to say Killians. I don’t drink all that much anymore, but its either that or white wine.
Where are all the archives?
Um yeah, you see- I have this little habit of getting all Sagittarius-like and wiping cleaning the archives every so often. I have full archives dating back to 2002 saved on my computer, but the full version isn’t available for public consumption
How do you make your blog designs?
With a lot of love, patience, caffeine, and too much snacking at the computer
Will you design a layout for me?
The answer to this is multiple choice:
a.) Maybe!
b.) Maybe, but only if you’re a “friend”.
c.) How much you gonna pay me?
d.) All of the above.
Technical Stuff
Seeing as I built this site with my own two hands (aside from Wordpress) my true passion is design. Some people will look at an amazing a website and say, “This looks cool”, but I truly admire the work that went into it, and every little intricate detail. For the past few years I’ve been working on mastering XHTML and CSS, and feel that I’ve done a pretty good job with that. At the moment I am working on three projects. One is pretty freaking big, and pretty freaking hush-hush. The other two are really nothing too big, and then of course, Garden of Thoughts 3.0.
Currently Garden of Thoughts is being powered by Wordpress. It’s running my very own theme, coined Garden of Thoughts, which is essentially the greatest thing I have ever managed to do on my own. So thats Garden of Thoughts, my soapbox and clearinghouse. Visit the archives if you are bored.
