Hello Moto

Not that it hasn’t been done before, but I thought I’d take some time to discuss my initial reactions to the Motorola Droid.

Great new features not previously available to me on my iPhone 3G, mutiltasking, driving home screen, Google GPS Navigation, drag and drop storage drive. Easy typing and word suggestions. To name a few.

One really obnoxious thing is that the default notifications stink. I mean STINK! I hate to constantly compare it to my iPhone, but iPhone missed calls, text or whatever show up on a large display when you unlock the phone. There really is no way to miss them, and no reason to check for them. Droid missed calls are hidden in the stupid notification menu, and I’m still not really sure how I will no I have a voicemail. I am constantly calling my voicemail to check…(because I am waiting to hear from a few people) Visual voicemail is a paid subvscription. STUPID. So I am waiting on an invite to use google voice. Even email by default does not tell you the number of unread email you have. Third party apps will fill in many of these gaps, but it’s just not the same. For instance, I have downloaded a stupid missed call notification app, which will light this tiny little cld a specific color for a call or email or text…. but it doesn’t say who its from or anything. On the iphone you could start reading the text immediately.

Anyway, There are plenty of annoying things, the list could go on and on. Overall it’s still a pretty cool phone, and arguably the best alternative for the iPhone, and by far the best phone offered on Verizon to date. I honestly think that if I didn’t know any better, this phone would be so much better. iPhone has spoiled me.

*Oh yea, in case you are wondering why I switched… AT&T doesn’t cover the area we are moving to. Otherwise, there was no way you would ever be able to pry the iPhone out of my dead lifeless body! We have home wi-fi so I still use it for everything but the phone. ;) It’s now a iTouch.
