Video Conversion
In preparing for our move I have been cleaning out the closet and getting rid of a lot of stuff that we don’t use. I have been meaning to get rid of a few things for a while now, and donate my old computer somewhere or something.
Well, since we got the new computer, I realized that my camcorder isn’t compatible with anything past Windows XP, so its pretty much moot. It’s getting old anyway, and I don’t really use it since pretty much all regular cameras have video functions now. And when I FINALLY get my new camera it will have awesome video anyhow.
So today I spent some time hooking up my old computer with XP on it, so that I could plug in my old camcorder and find a way to upload my old home movies, so I can get rid of the camcorder. But as it turns out, I think the only way to convert digital 8, is by screencapturing or something. Or maybe that’s the only FREE way that I am aware of.
I actually forgot how ancient technology works Yaknow? So there I am, watching my video as I copy it to my old computer, and it takes freaking forever. I mean first the time to watch it, (like half an hour) and then another 40 odd minutes for it to convert it to a file. And it looses all it’s quality that way to. But I guess something is better than nothing.
I can’t believe anyone ever wanted to do it this way??!?!?! So slow. It was like a time warp or something, so weird to even go back to the old computer.
I now have a video of my mom’s surprize birthday party a few years back.. But I’m not even sure where I can share it online, because of all the size, length restrictions on all the free sites. I guess I’ll need a paid account it I want to put it up.
Regardless, I only have a handful of important videos I am going to convert, but it’s still going to take a lifetime.
Luckily, I have the time. And I’ll just do other things while it’s converting.
Looking forward to watching some videos I haven’t watched in a while. Like my sister’s wedding, and my nieces 1st birthday party. Woo Fun times.
